Social Networking for pets

Sites such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube have increasing numbers of profiles of pets, in fact, one in ten of pets in the UK have either their own Facebook or Twitter profile or YouTube channel. Owners are normally on these social networking sites themselves and so choose to open a separate account for their pets also, just for the fun of it. I’m sure that everyone who hasn’t got a profile for their own pets, will know of someone who has. The demand is there and even Mark Zuckerberg has a Facebook profile for his dog called Beast. A social media specialist commented: ‘ We use sites like Facebook and Twitter as an extension of our real-world selves and when we think of our pets as part of the family we want them involved too.’

Have you got a Facebook/Twitter profile for you pet or did you put a video clip of your pet on YouTube? Do you think it is a good idea?

Tiger released back into the wild

A nine-year-old Amur tiger was discovered by students in a remote part of the Russian forest as he was roaring in pain due to being trapped by a cable snare. Poachers tried to catch the tiger as to them the carnivorous creature could be worth $10,000 on the black market. The students drove miles just to get to a phone to alert the authorities and then the anaesthetised tiger was transported to safety. Victor, as he was named, was bleeding and was treated for several cuts. To ensure he had no internal injuries, he was kept under observation and once specialists were happy, he was fitted with a radio collar and released back into the wilderness.
His release was caught on camera for a BBC Wildlife Magazine: ‘We chose a place with enough open space so that we could sit in our vehicles and watch as Victor left his cage for freedom … The power and speed with which he leapt  from the truck and disappeared into the forest was awesome.’

Larry, the Downing Street cat, is finally earning his keep and is turning into quite the ministerial mouse catcher.

Larry moved into number 10 last year and after a slow start has finally got in to the swing of things earned his Minister of Mice Catching Status.

Speaking on This Morning David Cameron confirmed that Larry has been busy catching mice.

However, it would seem that one mince is evading Larry’s claws. The Prime Minister took a photo of the particular mouse that is starring in the Downing Street Tom & Jerry show. Whether Larry survives the next reshuffle may depend on his success in the battle.
